On Monday, May 2nd, the Elite Martial Arts (EMA) Mississauga location was pleased to host an introductory Muay Thai Seminar lead by EMA Founder and Head Instructor, Dan Novak. The students attending the seminar were anxious and excited to get started and learn more about Muay Thai.
The seminar began with a traditional Muay Thai workout, which is based upon exercises specific to the Muay Thai form of marital arts. Students got to enjoy a full 30 minute Muay Thai workout session. The session provided a full range of various cardio, strength training, foot work, and core exercises essential to prepare students for the demands of Muay Thai training.
After completing the initial Muay Thai warm-up workout, the next phase of the seminar consisted of introducing students to the basic foundations of Muay Thai, which are vital to building the necessary skills fundamental to this form of martial arts. Students were taught such things, like:
- Proper Stances
- Hand Positioning
- How to Correctly Hold Pads
During this phase of the seminar, students got the opportunity to demonstrate, practice, and execute these techniques. All of the students at EMA Mississauga not only performed well with all of the technique they were taught by Dan, but also exceeded his expectations of what he anticipated during the 90 minute session. As a result, students progressed at a fast rate, which allowed them to spend more time learning additional Muay Thai techniques and skills.
In the next phase of the seminar, students got to apply the basic striking techniques they were introduced to earlier, and put them to use in various exercises meant to increase their sparring skills. Dan taught students how to successfully make the transition from simply pad work to practical applications of the techniques on actual, live opponents. The students all exhibited potential in this form of Martial Arts. In addition, they proved to Dan they could progress with the proper instruction in this fighting style, if the opportunity for future Muay Thai training presented itself.
The conclusion of the seminar reinforced and put everything into perspective for the students. Dan provided a brief history of Muay Thai traditions and principles. In addition, he made an effort to discuss and demonstrate to the EMA Mississauga students how the practice of traditional Muay Thai can greatly improve and strengthen one’s Krav Maga skills.
Krav Maga, is of course, the form of martial arts training Elite Martial Arts is well-known for throughout the GTA. It is the students’ primary martial arts discipline that is designed for practical, modern-world self-defense. Being presented with the opportunity to incorporate Muay Thai skills into their existing Krav Maga training certainly provided the students with an edge over other martial arts schools in Toronto, which might only teach more limited and dated curriculums. The devastating elbows, knees, and clinches of Muay Thai can be effectively, instantly, and easily transferred and incorporated into the Krav Maga form of martial arts.
Lastly, Dan had a very exciting and big announcement for this group of deserving and great students, who attended his Muay Thai seminar that day. Dan proudly announced the Elite Martial Arts Mississauga location would become an additional Siam Number 1 Muay Thai affiliate. With this announcement, it meant a new program would be added at this location, with a direct affiliation with Siam Number 1 Muay Thai.
As such, EMA Mississauga students would now have the opportunity to be taught all of the same traditional practices and principles of Muay Thai, as per the direct guidance and supervision of the Honorable Ajahn Suchart, the Ajahn for Dan Novak and other Muay Thai Instructors, currently teaching at all Elite Martial Arts locations throughout the GTA.
EMA Mississauga is pleased to offer this new program for our current and future students. The abundance of benefits this Mississauga Muay Thai program will bring our students is well beyond anything we can properly describe in this blog article entry. Dan and everyone at Elite Martial Arts wishes our students well and much success with this new program. It is our hope, our students will take full advantage of this exciting and excellent new martial arts training opportunity!
